Leanne Philp
My Professional Background
I head up the Dispute Resolution department at Attwaters Jameson Hill and deal with all aspects of civil and commercial litigation. I specialise particularly in contentious probate, breach of contract claims and building disputes.
I joined Attwaters in 2006, having qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive whilst working full-time at an international City law firm. Litigation is such a varied field and cases do not always revolve around money. I once had someone telephone me for advice about their kidnapped cat!
Achievements / Accreditations
I have been consistently recommended in the Legal 500 directory for many years, and it is always so gratifying to read comments from satisfied clients!
- In 2024, a client commented that “Leanne Philp is absolutely outstanding. Her work is very professional and she ensures that she meets all relevant deadlines.”
- In 2022, one commentator said: “Leanne Philp shows considerable strategic ability and is calm under fire.”
- In the 2018 rankings, I am highlighted as having “good instincts and can be relied upon to meet deadlines and get work done.”
- In the 2017 edition, the directory commented that I am “experienced and intuitive” and “readily gains her clients’ trust”.
One of my most notable cases was acting for a Defendant against their local Council, which we lost in the Cambridge County Court after the judge made a mistake in his findings. We appealed to the Appeal Court in Royal Courts of Justice and quashed the judge’s finding, saving our client her home. This case has been reported in the English law reports.
Another memorable case concerned a large partnership dispute, in which the other side tried to commit our client to prison for breaching a court order. We were successful in getting the committal application struck out and our client was awarded her costs.
About me
I live with my husband and two boys, who keep me entertained when I’m out of the office! I like eating pizza and enjoy a glass of wine. I like reading, skiing and spending time with my family, but I do have a phobia of wasps! If I were on a desert island and was allowed one companion, I’d choose Mark Owen – but I suppose my husband would do if Mark was busy!
