New maternity strategy announced

This announcement comes amid ongoing concerns about the number of babies dying in the UK due to problems encountered during labour and birth. Although the rates have decreased over the last 25 years, there remains widespread concern about the number of these deaths that are preventable and reflect mistakes made by staff.
 

Shocking statistics

Every year, an estimated 1,000 babies die unexpectedly or are left with severe brain injury in England, and the UK now has one of the worst rates in western Europe. Mistakes and poor-quality treatment can be devastating to families, and they deserve to know what went wrong, to receive an explanation, an apology, or a sum to compensate them and help them deal with the consequences. Every year we pursue claims on behalf of those who have suffered because of medical or clinical negligence.
