Announcing our Charity of the Year for 2018/19
The entity picked by Attwaters Jameson Hill as the firm’s 2018/19 Charity of the Year, with effect from 1 May, is Alzheimer’s Society. Our selected charity will be the worthy beneficiary of various events and other fundraising by our leading regional law firm and its 100-plus partners and staff, based at four offices.
“This decision was marvellous news for us,” acknowledges Mussara Gray of Alzheimer’s Society East Anglia, whose territory includes Essex and Hertfordshire. “Our work helping those affected by Alzheimer’s, and their families is heavily dependent upon community fundraising, so corporate support like this plays a vital part, for which we are immensely grateful”.
Alzheimer’s Society points out that dementia presents a massive health and care challenge for the UK, forecasting that by 2021 over a million people will be affected. The charity is in its second year of a five-year plan to ‘transform the landscape of dementia’ by ensuring support for anyone needing it, fostering greater community awareness and driving the dementia research agenda.
Attwaters Jameson Hill has natural empathy with those who are affected by dementia, or may be in years to come, as the firm advises many clients on their wills, enduring powers of attorney and other actions they can take to help them and their families deal with financial and elderly care issues as and when such matters arise. The charity was nominated by several members of staff at Attwaters Jameson Hill, who have seen the harrowing effects of dementia first hand, and are therefore passionate about helping to make a difference.
“We’ll be organising a mix of indoor and outdoor events, from quiz nights to long-distance walks, to raise if we can a good five-figure sum during the next twelve months for Alzheimer’s Society’s great work”, affirms Joyti Henchie, Head of Family Law. “Everyone here is proudly looking forward to working, and having some fun as well, to help alleviate the scourge of dementia”.
