Our expert Family Law team has the technical knowledge and case law expertise to help divorced couples with issues relating to spousal maintenance, including non-payment due to adverse financial circumstances.
Spousal maintenance is a periodic payment (usually monthly) paid by one member of a divorced couple to their former husband or wife. It can continue for either a set period of time or for the remainder of the recipient’s life, and will cease to be paid if the recipient remarries or either person dies.
Our friendly, approachable team is here to help
Whether you have lost your job or are living on a reduced income as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, you may be having trouble paying your regular spousal maintenance payments. If this is the case, then it’s important to seek legal assistance before you fall into arrears.
Falling behind on spousal maintenance payments could result in your former spouse bringing enforcement proceedings against you, which could be both stressful and expensive for both parties. Or, you could be obliged to pay exorbitant interest on your arrears (8%), further worsening your financial position.
We understand how stressful these situations can be. That’s why our family lawyers are dedicated to excellent client service and support – we’ll never leave you waiting for answers.
Cost-effective legal advice
We offer a range of legal packages to suit all requirements and budgets, meaning that you only have to pay what you can afford. Our team of expert negotiators and mediators will assist you in negotiating with your former spouse to reach a mutual agreement out of court or, if this is not achievable, we will help you to apply to the court to review your payments or represent you during enforcement proceedings.
