Success for Tony Brownlie in the 2018 London Marathon
Tony Brownlie took to the streets of London yesterday, for the hottest London Marathon on record. More than 40,000 runners took part, in temperatures of 24.1C, as reported by the Met Office, with even hotter temperatures for the runners themselves, due to the heat absorbed by the roads and from other competitors.
He ran on behalf of Cardiomyopathy UK and smashed his fundraising target of £1,650 with a current total of £2,000 and counting. Battling against the blistering heat, Tony successfully completed his first London Marathon in a time of 05:07:00.
Cardiomyopathy UK is a specialist national charity helping people affected by heart-related conditions. This is a cause that means a great deal to Tony, after he underwent a surgical procedure last year, to have a stent fitted in his heart. Their work includes providing support, information, raising awareness and campaigning for better access to quality treatment.
Tony said, “I feel so proud to have completed the London Marathon, especially in such hot conditions! It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere in London – the crowds were amazing and really helped me on my way. Most of all I’m thrilled to have exceeded my fundraising target, and to be able to make a positive difference, by helping Cardiomyopathy UK with their fantastic work. I want to thank everybody who has helped me on my journey, both with support and donations. I’m hoping to obtain a place to run again in 2019!”.
