At Attwaters Jameson Hill, we believe it is our duty to give back to the communities that have given us so much over the years. Our core values of integrity and respect drive us to engage with a wide range of civic and charitable causes so that we can make a meaningful contribution to the lives of local people and businesses.
Charitable Work
Each year, our team votes on a charitable organisation that we would like to support as Attwaters Jameson Hill’s Charity of the Year. This acts as a focus for our fundraising efforts for the year and is the main recipient of the money raised by events such as our popular annual Charity Quiz Night.
This year, our staff chose the Rainbow Trust as our COTY, an organisation which provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. We are delighted to say that, through the combined efforts of our wonderful team across our five offices, we managed to raise a staggering £43,093.66 for the Rainbow Trust in the 2023/24 financial year.
Charities we have supported in the past include Evelina London House (which is part of Ronald McDonald House Charities), Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, the Alzheimer’s Society and Grove Cottage (the home of Mencap in Bishop’s Stortford).
We also organise regular food collections at our offices to donate to local food banks. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we also donated unwanted laptops and tablets to a local IT firm for refurbishment and redistribution to local schools.
Business Partners of the Epping Forest Heritage Trust
We work with Epping Forest Heritage Trust as a Business Partner, supporting the Charity to inspire and educate people to visit the forest. Our team undertake tasks such as guided walks, practical habitat management and policy, planning and advocacy work to raise the Forest’s profile with key decision-makers and policymakers. Our Partnership with the Trust demonstrates our commitment to environmental sustainability and enables us to make a real difference to this beautiful ancient Forest, located just a few minutes down the road from our Loughton office.
Harlow Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
Historically, we have been heavily involved with the Harlow Citizens Advice Bureau, with many of our lawyers volunteering to sit on the Solicitors rota to provide free advice sessions to individuals with specific legal problems.
Work experience and careers support
The firm has links with a number of local schools, colleges and universities and actively participates in work experience programmes to provide placement opportunities throughout the year. We also give talks and presentations to students at various careers events. This gives young people the chance to gain experience in the field and offers a valuable insight into what a career in law is really like.
For example, our Partner and Head of Family Law, Belinda Strange, currently volunteers at Anglia Ruskin University’s Law Clinic, and has previously welcomed students for placements within her team as part of their higher education.
Local School Governorships
Over the years, many of our Partners and Associates have been Governors for local schools – are parents themselves and find their involvement to be immensely rewarding and insightful. Many of the skills learned as part of their Governorship have also come in very useful in the workplace!
- Peter Westbrook is a Governor of Leventhorpe Business and Enterprise Academy in Sawbridgeworth, Herts
- Joyti Henchie is a former Governor of Northgate Primary School in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts
- Sheenagh Parsons is a former Governor of Nobel Secondary School in Stevenage, Herts
- Sheri-Anne Mizon is a former Governor of Milwards Primary School in Harlow, Essex
Local School Governorships
A number of local sports clubs have benefited significantly from Attwaters Jameson Hill’s support and sponsorship, including:
- Hertford Cricket Club
- Loughton Cricket Club
- Harlow Rugby Club
- Cheshunt Football Club
Medical negligence team initiatives
Attwaters Jameson Hill’s Medical Negligence team works closely with AvMA (Action Against Medical Accidents) with our team members helping out with AvMA’s Patient Helpline.
Social & Wellbeing Champions
Looking after our local community should start with looking after our staff. We have designated Social & Wellbeing Champions at each of our offices whose job it is to design and implement initiatives to keep our team physically and mentally fit and well.
Just some of our initiatives include book clubs, social walks, extracurricular team gatherings and charity bake-offs. For a snapshot of our 2023 activity click here
